Mama June Shannon is sharing her thoughts on Todd and Julie Chrisley's recent pardon, and she's hoping they've learned from their experience. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the reality star, 45, reacted to President Donald Trump's decision to pardon the Chrisleys on May 27.
Shannon, who faced her own legal battles in 2019, reminded the couple that their "slap on the wrist" this time around might not be so lenient in the future. "This slap on the wrist may not be a slap on the wrist next time," she cautioned.
Shannon's Own Legal Troubles
In March 2019, Shannon was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance after allegedly having crack cocaine and a crack pipe on her. Her boyfriend at the time, Eugene Edward "Geno" Doak, was also arrested and faced charges for third-degree domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the incident, Shannon's daughter Lauryn "Pumpkin" Efird took custody of her youngest, Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, who was just 14 at the time.
Although Shannon was sentenced to 100 hours of community service, she reflected on the experience, saying, "I didn't go to jail. I just had to be good for a year."
Shannon expressed her hope that the Chrisleys, who were serving a combined 19 years in prison for tax evasion and bank fraud, had learned something from their time behind bars.
Now that they are getting totally pardoned, just like myself, I didn't go to jail. I just had to be good for a year," Shannon said. "But now that they are getting totally pardoned, I hope they learned something from their little slap on the wrist."
