Jamie Lee Curtis, the Oscar-winning actress, has opened up about her special bond with Mariska Hargitay, the star of Law & Order: SVU. According to Curtis, their shared experience of being born to Hollywood legends has created a strong connection between them.
Curtis, 66, and Hargitay, 61, met at the Tribeca Festival premiere of Hargitay's documentary, My Mom Jayne, which chronicles the life of her late mother, Jayne Mansfield. Speaking to PEOPLE, Curtis explained, "We were both born and raised in the City of Angels. We were both born to legends. We were both born to very public women — in my case, [both] parents — and all of the drama." Curtis added that Hargitay had a "great tragedy" that she did not experience, referring to Mansfield's death in a car accident when Hargitay was only 3 years old.
Hargitay's documentary, My Mom Jayne, is set to be released in theaters on June 20 and will be available for streaming on Max. The film chronicles Mansfield's life and legacy, and Hargitay's mother had on her.
Curtis, who was introduced to Hargitay by a mutual friend, says that their friendship has been a source of strength for her. "It's just kind of given birth to a new friendship at a time when she is really stepping up and into her great strength as a woman, as a mother, as a sister, as an artist, as a filmmaker, and it's just thrilling," Curtis said.
