Rider Strong, best known for his role as Shawn Hunter on the popular 90s TV show Boy Meets World, has opened up about a emotional breakdown he experienced during the filming of a 1999 episode.
In the episode "Getting Hitched," Shawn's father Chet (played by Blake Clark) had just passed away, and Rider Strong struggled to cope with the emotional weight of the scene. He recently shared his experience on the podcast Pod Meets World, saying, "I just lost it. I was like, 'I feel like I'm saying the same thing every week.' "
Strong explained that the pressure of playing Shawn, who had a complicated relationship with his father, was overwhelming. "Shawn's emotional story is that his dad is never there for him," he said. "But if his dad was actually paying for his college in Shawn's story – I believe that the denial is possible. But his dad was taking care of him then, in Shawn's mind."
The actor also mentioned that he was tired of being on the show and felt like he was saying the same thing every week. "I was like, 'Why [do] they keep throwing drama at me?' " he said.
In related news, the cast of Boy Meets World has been reminiscing about their time on the show. Kristin Cavallari has also been open about her life after the show.
