Steven Van Zandt, the actor and musician, has undergone emergency surgery for appendicitis while on tour with Bruce Springsteen. The 74-year-old musician shared the news on Instagram, revealing that he initially thought he had food poisoning but was diagnosed with appendicitis.
"Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis," Van Zandt captioned the post. "Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian."

The surgery was a complete success, and Van Zandt is hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. "Operation was a complete success and I'm hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. Thank you all for all the good vibes. See you soon," he wrote.
Van Zandt's bandmate, Bruce Springsteen, has also battled health issues in recent years. In September 2023, Springsteen postponed his tour to recover from a painful stomach illness. He later canceled all of his 2023 shows "out of an abundance of caution" and under the decision of his medical advisors.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's Land of Hope and Dreams Tour kicked off on May 14 at Co-op Live in Manchester, England, and is set to conclude on July 3 at San Siro Stadium in Milan.
