Tia Mowry, star of the popular 90s sitcom "Sister, Sister," is taking a trip down memory lane. In a recent Instagram post, the 46-year-old actress shared some surprising facts about her journey to fame, including babysitting the Olsen twins on the set of "Full House" and dancing for MC Hammer.
Mowry revealed that she and her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley, were not originally child actors in their family. Instead, their brother Tahj was cast as Teddy on "Full House," and their mom brought them along to the set. While there, they would babysit Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, playing with them between takes.
Before becoming actresses, Mowry and her sister were part of a girl group called Voices and even danced for MC Hammer. They thought music was their path, but everything changed when they met Suzanne de Passe, who introduced them to Karen Bass, the creator of "Sister, Sister."
The Road to "Sister, Sister" Fame Wasn't Easy
Mowry shared that the twins were devastated when they learned the show wasn't picked up in the fall lineup. They prayed and cried in a dark closet, wondering if they had made a mistake by giving up their music group for the show.
However, the show was eventually picked up as a midseason replacement, and later, Warner Bros. gave it a 100-episode guarantee after ABC dropped it. "Sister, Sister" went on to become a hit and made its mark in TV history.
Mowry reflected on the challenges they faced, saying, "A lot of people think our journey to Sister, Sister was easy... but trust me, it was far from it. As kids, we faced a lot of heartache and uncertainty. But every challenge taught me something... It shaped my faith, my resilience, and prepared me for everything that came after. I wouldn’t change a thing."
