The wait is finally over! The first trailer for Wicked: For Good has dropped, and it's giving us all the feels. The highly anticipated sequel to last year's Wicked is set to hit theaters on November 21.
DIRECTED BY JON M. CHU, Wicked: For Good picks up where the first film left off, with Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) fleeing the Land of Oz after being labeled a "wicked witch" by her former instructor.
The Story Continues
In an interview with ScreenRant, screenwriter Winnie Holzman revealed that the decision to split the adaptation into two films was made after "long conversations" with director Jon M. Chu, composer Stephen Schwartz, and producer Marc Platt.
"We wanted the fun, and the whole artistic fulfillment of being able to make these movies was to be able to explore our story and our characters with a little bit more depth," Holzman said. "And nobody wanted to cut any songs — in fact, we wanted to add songs."
Awards and Accolades
The first film opened to rave reviews and a lucrative opening weekend last year, raking in $114 million across North American theaters from its first few days of screenings. It went on to bring in hundreds of millions internationally and even gained awards attention, including 10 Oscar nominations.
