The chairman of Sony Pictures Television, Keith LeGoy, has stated that the spinoff of the popular TV series S.W.A.T., EXILES, is still in the process of determining if it will feature familiar faces from the original show. This comes just days after the announcement of the spinoff, which will star Shemar Moore as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson.
LeGoy stated at the Banff TV Festival that the show's creators would love to have other "family members" involved in some capacity, whether it's full-time, part-time, or something in between. However, this is still being figured out.
The spinoff, EXILES, was announced mere days after the series finale of S.W.A.T. aired, following its third cancellation at CBS. So far, Shemar Moore is the only star set to make the jump to the spinoff, reprising his role as Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson on EXILES.
This isn't the first executive who has expressed a desire to have more S.W.A.T. stars reprise their characters on EXILES. Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television, told Variety last month that fans should expect some "favorites" from the original series to pop up on the spinoff.
The spinoff is set to begin after "a high-profile mission goes sideways" and Moore's Hondo comes out of retirement to spearhead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit. The group, comprised of inexperienced recruits, must overcome clashing personalities and generational divides as Hondo seeks to "turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is," according to the official logline.
Hours after news of the spinoff broke, Moore shared an Instagram post declaring himself the "Tom Brady of S.W.A.T." He also addressed him being the only cast member announced to return, calling his former co-stars "a strong squad, a family, a team."
Not all of the cast felt the same, however. David Lim, who played Victor Tan on all eight seasons of the CBS series, shared a post to Instagram reflecting on his time on S.W.A.T. and expressed how it made him feel for the cast to be "brushed aside" for EXILES.

For now, fans of S.W.A.T. will have to keep their fingers crossed for familiar faces to appear on EXILES. Until then, they can stream all seasons of S.W.A.T. on Paramount+.
