KJ Smith Accidentally Reveals She's Expecting a Girl at the 2025 BET Awards

KJ Smith, the star of the popular TV show "Sistas," has let slip that she's expecting a baby girl later this year. She debuted her baby bump on the red carpet at the 2025 BET Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 9.

Smith, 40, posed in a flowing green gown, while her husband Skyh Black, 37, opted for an all-black ensemble. The couple couldn't help but show off their PDA, holding hands and sharing a romantic moment on the red carpet.

Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet, Smith revealed that she had experienced morning sickness and all the cravings, but lasagna didn't sit well with her. However, in a moment of excitement, she accidentally let slip that she's expecting a baby girl.

"I have mom brain!" Smith joked, defending herself. Her husband, Black, couldn't help but laugh and tease her about it.

The couple, who got married in September 2023, announced their pregnancy in an exclusive interview with ESSENCE. Smith had previously expressed her reluctance to have kids due to her focus on her acting career, fibroids, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, Black changed her mind.

"I didn't want kids at all. I aspired to be a rich auntie," Smith said in the interview. "Then when he came into my life, and you meet a man who is responsible and a leader who takes charge and wants to be a father, wants to have a family, my mind changed."

Black is also looking forward to parenthood, having grown up with an absent biological father. "It's something that I've always looked forward to. It's something that I've always dreamed of, how I was going to connect with my kid, or foster their dreams, so I'm elated."
