Sabrina Carpenter is not bothered by those who complain about her sexually explicit performances, and she's not holding back.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 26-year-old Grammy winner addressed the criticism she's received for her risqué performances of her hit song "Juno" during her Short n' Sweet tour. The song, named after the 2007 teen pregnancy film, features lyrics that have raised some eyebrows, with Carpenter singing, "I might let you make me Juno." She takes it even further on tour, acting out different positions while singing, "Wanna try out some freaky positions? Have you ever tried this one?"
But it's not just "Juno" that's got people talking. During her performance of "Bed Chem," she ends the performance on a heart-shaped bed behind a curtain, staged sex with a male dancer.
Despite the criticism, Carpenter isn't apologizing. "It's always so funny to me when people complain," she told Rolling Stone. "They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly, you love sex. You're obsessed with it. It's in my show."
Carpenter added that she finds it ironic that critics are so focused on the more explicit moments of her performance, while ignoring the more introspective songs in her setlist. "I can't control that. If you come to the show, you'll hear the ballads, you'll hear the more introspective numbers," she said.
The criticism, Carpenter believes, is part of a larger problem. "I think it's a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity," she said. "I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now."
But Carpenter isn't letting the criticism get her down. She's already announced the release of her seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend, which drops on August 29, 2025. The album's lead single, "Manchild," was released on June 5.
Carpenter also been making waves with her bold fashion choices, including a recent Rolling Stone cover shoot that featured her posing naked and rocking Rapunzel hair.
