Mike Love, the 83-year-old Beach Boys bandmate, is remembering his late cousin and fellow band member Brian Wilson, who passed away on June 11. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE ahead of the Songwriters' Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Love reminisced on their relationship, saying they are "inseparable" in "life and afterlife too."

Love, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 12, also paid tribute to Wilson earlier in the week with an Instagram video filled with home movies of their time together. In the video, Love said, "Today, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music."

Love also mentioned which of the Beach Boys songs he still enjoys performing, including "California Girls," "Surfin' USA," "I Get Around," and "Good Vibrations," which he considers the most unique and successful song.

Wilson died on Wednesday, June 11, and his family shared a photo of him sitting on a park bench, announcing the news. "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," the statement read.

Love also spoke about being recognized by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, saying, "It's really great to have my contribution to the Beach Boys music finally recognized, so it's a great honor. I'm being inducted into an organization that has so many fantastic talented people, so it's an enormous honor."

Other celebrities have also paid tribute to Wilson, including Paul McCartney, who said, "I was privileged to be around his bright shining light."

Love concluded his tribute to Wilson by saying, "May you rest in the peace you so deeply deserve, surrounded by the heavenly music you helped create. May your spirit soar as high as your falsetto, may your wings spread in effortless flight."
