Nick Lachey, member of the popular boy band 98 Degrees, has opened up about the group's frugal ways during their early days of success. In a recent interview, Lachey shared that the bandmates would often take the subway instead of splitting a cab fare, even if it meant waiting in the freezing cold at 4 a.m.
"For a band that was successful, we were so frugal with money," Lachey said. "I was young and stupid then — much wiser now."
The band, which consisted of Lachey, his brother Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre, lived in New York City while recording their first album. According to Lachey, they would often stay in the recording studio until 3 or 4 a.m. and then take the subway back to their Brooklyn home to save money.

Lachey added that the group's frugal nature was due to their humble beginnings. "We were four kids from Ohio who didn't grow up with a lot, so it was like, okay, well, we're going to be as cautious as we can with this," he said.
In the same interview, Lachey also shared his emotional response to the end of filming the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which he starred in with his then-wife Jessica Simpson.
