The rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres was on full display during a game on Thursday. The teams cleared their benches after their respective managers were involved in an altercation, which led to both managers being ejected from the game.
The incident occurred in the ninth inning of the game at Dodger Stadium, after Dodgers reliever Jack Little hit Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. on the hand with a pitch. Padres manager Mike Shildt came out to check on his player and then turned his attention to Roberts, shouting at him. This led to Roberts racing to home plate, pushing Shildt, and both teams storming the field.

After the game, which the Padres won 5-3, each manager gave their side of the story. Roberts explained that he took the incident personally because he was trying to get his starters out of the game and get the kid a couple of rest. Shildt said his beef was with the fact that Tatis has been an easy target for the Dodgers, and "enough's enough."
Tatis underwent x-rays, which were negative, but his prognosis is pending further imaging. He seemed nonplussed by the incident but did call into question his history with the Dodgers, saying "For me, it wasn't [intentional], but how many times have they hit me already?"
