Luke Grimes, the actor behind Kayce Dutton in the hit series Yellowstone, is set to reprise his role in a new spinoff series, Y: Marshals. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Grimes shared his excitement about the project and what fans can expect from the new show.

The 41-year-old actor revealed that he was initially hesitant to return to the Yellowstone world, but the pitch for the spinoff "really roped me in." He believes the new series will do the same for the audience.

Grimes admitted that the last day on set of Yellowstone was more emotional than he expected. "It was a lot bigger of a life moment than I thought it would be. To try to put that show away, it was hard. It was really hard, and I know this is going to sound weird, but it was sort of emotional. It was like losing a family in a way."

The new series, Y: Marshals, will "find a whole new world" for Kayce Dutton, according to Grimes. The actor emphasized that the show will have a good story and make sense, rather than simply continuing the character's journey for the sake of it.

Grimes also hinted that there will be some familiar faces in the new series, but also a lot of new faces, which will make the transition interesting.

In addition to his work on Y: Marshals, Grimes has partnered with High West as the whiskey's newest brand ambassador for its Protect the West initiative, which supports charities nationwide working on land preservation and environmental stewardship.
