The long-running animated series made a bold move in the season 36 finale, leaving fans wondering about the fate of beloved matriarch Marge Simpson.
The episode, titled "Estranger Things," saw Marge, voiced by Julie Kavner, die in a flash-forward storyline set decades in the future. However, the show's creators have confirmed that Marge's death is not as permanent as it seems.
According to the episode, Marge's death occurs in a future where Lisa has become the commissioner of the NBA, and Bart is scamming senior citizens out of their Social Security checks. In a video message left for her children, Marge expresses her hope that they will continue to lean on each other and not drift apart.
The finale ends with Lisa and Bart reuniting and setting out to rescue Homer, who has been taken away to a retirement home in Florida. In a heartwarming moment, Marge is shown in heaven, surrounded by loved ones, including Beatles member Ringo Starr.
Despite Marge's "death," Julie Kavner will continue to voice the character, and Marge will remain a central figure on the show, which has been renewed through its milestone 40th season.
