Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to lead a new movie adaptation of Jane Austen's first novel, Sense and Sensibility, as Elinor Dashwood, the protagonist and older sister of Marianne Dashwood. The actress confirmed the news on Instagram, posting a selfie holding a worn copy of the book.

The new adaptation, directed by Georgia Oakley, will follow the timeless exploration of restraint and passion as the Dashwood sisters navigate love, loss, and financial uncertainty amid the societal expectations of 18th-century England.
This is not the first time Sense and Sensibility has been adapted for the screen. In 1995, Ang Lee directed a film treatment of the novel, starring Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood and Kate Winslet as Marianne Dashwood.
Daisy Edgar-Jones is known for her roles in films like Twisters (2024) and Fresh (2022), as well as several series and movies adapted from books, including On Swift Horses (2024), Where the Crawdads Sing (2022), Under the Banner of Heaven (2022), and Normal People (2020), in her breakout role.
Fans are thrilled about Edgar-Jones' new role, with many commenting on her Instagram post announcing the news. "MISS DAISY EDGAR JONES PLAYING A JANE AUSTEN LEADING LADY?!?! 😍" one fan wrote, while another commented, "Yessss Daisy! Can't wait for this to be a comfort watch already! 📺"
Further casting and a release date for Sense and Sensibility have not yet been released.
