As the upcoming CBS spinoff series Boston Blue prepares to premiere this fall, Donnie Wahlberg has given fans an update on the possibility of his Blue Bloods costar and onscreen dad Tom Selleck making an appearance.
In an interview with Parade, Wahlberg hinted that Selleck's return as Frank Reagan is likely, citing the proximity of New York and Boston. "New York and Boston are really close," Wahlberg said, suggesting that it wouldn't be difficult for Selleck's character to make a cameo.
Wahlberg, who will reprise his role as Danny Reagan in the spinoff, emphasized the importance of maintaining the legacy of Blue Bloods. "Blue Bloods is important to the audience, it's important to me," he said. "We're keeping all of that at the forefront of our thoughts as we build this thing."
The spinoff will see Wahlberg's character join the Boston PD and partner with detective Lena Peters, played by The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green. Wahlberg promised that the show will maintain the throughline that Blue Bloods fans have come to love.
Ever since CBS announced that Blue Bloods would end with season 14, the cast, including Selleck, has been vocal about their desire to continue their characters' stories. Selleck, 80, has expressed his frustrations about the show's cancellation, stating that he believes it was "always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go."

Boston Blue is set to premiere this fall on CBS. Will Tom Selleck make an appearance? Only time will tell.
