Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Reveals Intensive Process of Cleaning Her Uniform

Ava Lahey, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, has taken to TikTok to share the multi-step process of cleaning her iconic blue-and-white uniform for game day. Yes, you heard that right - the cheerleaders are responsible for cleaning their own uniforms.

In a recent TikTok video, Lahey, who joined the DCC for the 2024-25 NFL season, took viewers through the "long process" of washing her recognizable ensemble, star-spangled shorts and all. The video has racked up 3M views since it was first posted on Friday, May 30.

Lahey starts the video by removing the perfectly folded pieces from a white garment bag. She then ties the iconic knot of the spirited blue crop top beneath its coordinating white, fringed vest before getting into the nitty gritty.

"I start by removing all of my velcro stars. Yes, they're on with velcro. That typically shocks people," she said while pulling off several from her belted micro shorts, adding, "And we can also remove the big belt buckle."

The cheerleader then grabbed her stain spray, which she uses to remove any dirt from the field or self-tanner that might've rubbed off onto the uniform. She sprayed a few pumps onto her white vest and began to scrub... with a toothbrush!

"This is a stain spray that I use to get out any dirt and tanner," she said in a voiceover while going through the motions. "There are certain ingredients that we are not allowed to use on the uniform - and surprisingly, this material is very forgiving and easy to clean."

Lahey said that she uses the toothbrush to scrub out all of the stains from the garments before she puts them in the washing machine.

Next, Lahey gives full attention to the detail that's synonymous with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders: the stars. Of course, there's a special cleaning treatment for the sequin-lined shapes.

"I put them in a Tupperware with warm water and Dawn dish soap," she said, placing them in the container after individually scrubbing each one down with a toothbrush.

Lahey also revealed a "hack" the cheerleaders use to determine when a star is dirty: each star has a little pink dot of marker at the tip of the star. This ensures that the same tip of the star is getting dirty, so it's easier to clean.

After everything is dry, Lahey hangs the pieces back up on hangers and ensures each garment is lined up to perfection because she has to re-pin her shirt's lapels down so they don't "flap in the wind" when she performs the iconic DCC entrance, "Thunderstruck."

"Now everything's good as new!" she shared, concluding the video.

The viral TikTok video amassed mixed reviews in the comment section, with many expressing shock at the fact the cheerleaders have to clean their own uniforms.
