Jason Isaacs, the original Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, has given his stamp of approval to Johnny Flynn, who has been cast as the new Lucius Malfoy in the upcoming HBO reboot series.

Isaacs, 62, took to social media to congratulate Flynn, 42, on his new role, saying, "A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn't have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don't make him sing…"

Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," expressed his excitement to see Flynn take over the role.

Flynn is among a long list of stars joining the upcoming reboot series, including Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

John Lithgow will assume the role of Dumbledore, with Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape.

The series is expected to focus on one book per season, starting with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Isaacs had previously said he was trying to "milk" his final moments as the only actor who has played Lucius Malfoy, but it seems he is now ready to pass the torch to Flynn.
