Gloria Estefan Shares Emotional Conversation with Emily Coming Out as Gay

Gloria Estefan has opened up about the emotional conversation with her daughter Emily came out as gay in 2017. The Cuban singer, 67, recalled the conversation, saying that she played both mom and music industry advisor.

Estefan remembered telling Emily, now 30, "Listen, are you 100% sure this is how you feel? I'll get on that parade float with you. But in the meantime, why don't you put your music without any labels on it at all?"

Estefan explained that she didn't want Emily to be labeled, adding, "I told her, 'You have to be ready for that, because it's not going to be easy. And I will be by your side, 100%."

After the conversation, Estefan didn't see her daughter any differently, saying, "She's Emily, and that was always the case."

In November, Emily celebrated her eight-year anniversary with girlfriend Gemeny Hernandez, captioning a sweet Instagram post, "Love is growing up. Love is watching the pigment in your face form, the softness in your voice amplify. Almost 8 years beautiful. Te Amo."

The Estefan family is stronger than ever, with Gloria releasing a music video to "La Vecina (No Sé Na')" featuring her family.

Gloria also opened up about filming the music video in the same place in Miami where she and her mother first lived when they immigrated from Cuba in 1959.

"It's like, 'No matter how far you get in life... You're always that person, that little girl, that dreamer," she said. "To go back to where I started, but, now, with this beautiful family, and this career, that has been a blessing."
