Sarah Jessica Parker, the star of the hit HBO series Sex and the City, has confessed that it was "so unpleasant" for her to watch herself on the show that she couldn't give good notes.
In a recent interview, Parker revealed that she has never watched most of Sex and the City, and only saw some of the first season and the 2004 series finale. She explained that she "finally begged off" from watching the dailies and rough cuts from the studio because it was "so unpleasant" for her to watch herself that she couldn't see the work.
The actress, who played the iconic character Carrie Bradshaw, said that producer and director Michael Patrick King would tell her, "You've gotta watch. You've got to give me notes. You've got to watch it." But Parker said she realized that she wasn't being helpful because it was so unpleasant for her to watch herself that she couldn't see the work, and that's not a good producing partner.
Parker did, however, make an exception for the final episode ever, which she saw at a live screening with Michael Patrick King. She described the experience as "incredible" and said it was the only time she understood the cultural impact of the series.
Parker also reflected on how playing Carrie Bradshaw" has influenced her life, saying that Carrie is a "rule breaker" and that playing her made her look at rules differently. She also said that playing the character made her realize that being true to oneself is important.
