Emily Alyn Lind, Ewan McGregor predicted that she and his daughter Esther would become fast friends, and he was right. Lind and Esther, who star alongside each other in the adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling novel We Were Liars, instantly clicked on set.
Ewan McGregor's Prediction
Lind, 23, recalls Ewan telling her on the set of Doctor Sleep in 2019 that she and Esther, also 23, would get along because of their similar artistic nature and quirky personalities. "He's like, 'I have a young daughter, your age exactly. You guys are both artists, weird kids with short hair. You guys would be friends,'" Lind tells PEOPLE.
Esther and Lind had connected online before being cast on We Were Liars, but they didn't meet in person until they landed in Nova Scotia, where they spent five months filming. "But I had known Esther because we were both super upset about this crazy thing. We found each other randomly [on Instagram]." They started direct messaging each other, but then lost touch until they were cast on the show.
"And then, we met [on We Were Liars] and we were so instantly obsessed with each other, it was so cool," Lind says.

Esther's Magical Quality
Esther's costars, including Candice King, gush about her "magical" quality. King, 38, says, "I feel like she's like this magical fairy that sprinkles pixie dust of joy everywhere she goes." Lind agrees, saying Esther is the most like her character among the foursome of Liars. "She's a giddy girl," Lind says of Esther. "She's just magic-y."
The foursome, including Joseph Zada and Shubham Maheshwai, bonded off-set as well. Lind says they were "so wonderful" to have around, and they would often run lines together. "We were all so good together. It was so good to have them as a support mechanism."
We Were Liars is now streaming on Prime Video.
