Tom Brady made a 12-year-old cancer survivor's dream come true when he met him at Fanatics Fest on Friday, June 20. Axton Robertson, a huge fan of Brady, was diagnosed with cancer and is currently in remission.
Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Axton's wish to meet his hero was granted. Brady, who has been involved with the organization, spoke to PEOPLE about the experience, saying, "It's always just an amazing experience... There are a lot of people who deal with some difficult situations, so it's great to hear their stories, wish them words of encouragement and make a fun day out of it."
Axton's mom, Courtney, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her son's excitement and anticipation. She said, "He was very nervous this morning — the anticipation has been building for a long time. We've known about this wish for about a year and a half, so the fact that the day is finally here is both exciting and nerve-racking."
Axton, who is from Tennessee, is obsessed with football and spends most of his free time playing football, basketball, swimming, and more. He looks up to Brady as a role model and was thrilled to meet him. When asked what he planned to say to Brady, Axton admitted he had no idea, but he knew it would be a day to cherish.
Axton's family was emotional during the meeting, knowing everything he's been through during his cancer journey. Courtney shared, "He's been through a lot... So to see him get to experience something like this — and the generosity that's being shown — it's very well deserved, but we're also very appreciative."
Axton finally got to meet Brady and even played catch with him. The moment was especially emotional for his family, knowing everything he's been through during his cancer journey.
