Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles has posted a cryptic message on her Instagram Stories, alluding to "strength" and "madness" amid her ongoing social media feud with conservative activist Riley Gaines.
The 28-year-old gymnast posted, "Strength is what we gain from the madness we survive," on Monday, June 23, days after deleting her X account.
Biles' Instagram post comes after a heated exchange with Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer, over transgender rights in sports. The feud began when Gaines made anti-trans remarks about a transgender softball player, prompting Biles to respond.
In her response, Biles called Gaines a "sore loser" and suggested that she was bullying the trans community. Gaines responded, calling Biles' comments "so disappointing" and accusing her of subtle "body shaming."
Biles later apologized for getting "personal" with Gaines, stating that she believes competitive equity and inclusivity are essential in sports.
Gaines responded to Biles' deletion of her X account, saying, "Sad to see such a phenom go down like this."
The feud has sparked a larger conversation about transgender athletes in sports, with many weighing in on the issue.
