In the trailer, Lewis's daughter Mallory shares insights into the highs and lows of Shari and Lamb Chop's career, highlighting how her mother wanted to be seen as more than just a one-trick pony. "There can only be one sun and Lamb Chop became a big star. Mom wanted to be seen as more than a one-trick pony. And the audiences were like, 'That's nice, where's Lamb Chop?' "

The documentary follows Lewis's journey from her early days as a ventriloquist to her struggles after her show was canceled in the mid-1970s, and how she forged ahead, staging a comeback in the 1990s. Lewis passed away in 1998 at the age of 65.

In the trailer, Lewis is seen recalling the dark moments of her career, including when she cried with Lamb Chop after her show was canceled. "When my show was canceled, that's the only time I ever went to Lamb Chop and cried with her," she says.

Director Lisa D'Apolito says of the documentary, "Shari Lewis's life is the ultimate comeback story. Shari mesmerized and empowered generations of children and their families in believing in themselves and having fun doing it. Audiences for the film have been multi-generational and have laughed and cried together and fallen in love with Shari and Lamb Chop."

Mallory Lewis, who has kept her mother's legacy alive by taking Lamb Chop on the road and connecting with fans on TikTok, says of the documentary, "I could not be happier that the world is finally going to get to truly know my mother's story and for the first time meet the fascinating and complex woman, the wife, the mother, the producer, that was Shari Lewis!"

Shari & Lamb Chop debuts in select theaters on July 18.
