Sophie Cunningham, a star player for the Indiana Fever, has denied allegations that she had an affair with Josh Bartelstein, the married CEO of her former team, the Phoenix Mercury.
Cunningham, 28, took to Instagram to address the rumors, calling them "false and extremely hurtful." She stated, "I hold myself to the highest integrity and my values are what guide me on and off the court."
The allegations surfaced in a lawsuit filed by a former Phoenix Suns employee, who claimed that Bartelstein had an affair with Cunningham. The lawsuit also accused the team of racial discrimination and security lapses.
The Phoenix Suns organization has also denied the allegations, calling them "entirely false and morally reprehensible." A spokesperson for the team stated, "We will pursue all available legal avenues and hold those accountable for participating in the spread of misleading and false narratives."
Cunningham, who was drafted by the Mercury in 2019 and played for the team until she was traded to the Indiana Fever last season, has missed the Fever's first two games of the season due to an ankle injury.
