Lizzo Honors Transgender Women of Color in Emotional Performance

Lizzo kicked off Pride month with a special shoutout to the transgender women of color who have fought for their rights and the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community.

During her performance at OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 31, the 37-year-old singer dedicated her song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to the audience and "most importantly, to the Black trans women who was out there fighting."

In her speech to the crowd, Lizzo emphasized that "we would not be able to celebrate today" without the efforts of Black trans women who have fought against systems that tried to erase them.

She continued, "We still in some sh-- right, but hopefully one day beyond this m------------ rainbow bitch, we will see a place where we no longer have to fight to exist."

Two days later, Lizzo shared a clip of her performance on Instagram, sharing similar sentiments in the caption. "Happy Pride to the LGBTQIA+ community," she wrote. "As this month begins, let us remember there would be no pride without the Black trans women & trans women of color who fought against the systems that tried to erase them."

In honor of that fight, Lizzo urged her fans to "continue to take a stand against that very same system that threatens our rights to bodily autonomy and liberation."

"We ain't free till we all free. I love you," Lizzo concluded the post.

Lizzo's performance was part of the annual two-day Pride festival, which featured other performers such as Kim Petras, Remi Wolf, Paris Hilton, Rebecca Black, Frankie Grande, and many others.
