Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey is set to release a new book, "Poems & Prayers", this fall through Crown Publishing, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The book is a collection of poetry and prayers inspired by proverbs and McConaughey's own experiences.

According to a statement shared with PEOPLE, the book is an "inspiring, faith-filled and often hilarious" collection of prayers and poetry. The book's prose is inspired by proverbs and sections from the Old Testament, as well as McConaughey's own daydreams, nightmares, and musings.

"I've always relied on logic to make sense of myself and the world," McConaughey said in a statement. "A prescriptionist at heart, I've always looked to reason to find the rhyme, the practical to get to the mystical, the choreography to find the dance, the proof to get to the truth and reality to get to the dream."

McConaughey continued, "I've been finding that tougher to do lately. It's more than hard to know what to believe in; it's hard to believe. But I don't want to quit believing, and I don't want to stop believing in humanity — you, myself, our potential."

The book follows McConaughey's 2020 bestselling memoir "Greenlights", drawn from the actor's journal entries. An audiobook edition read by McConaughey will also be released simultaneously on September 16.
