Cooper Flagg, the 18-year-old basketball sensation, has made history by securing two ESPY nominations less than 24 hours after being picked as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks.
Flagg, who spent one season with the Duke Blue Devils, has been nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete and Best College Athlete - Men's Sports at the 2025 ESPY Awards. The awards show, hosted by comedian Shane Gillis, will take place on July 16.
The ESPY Awards, which celebrate excellence in sports performance, have also announced nominations in other categories, including Best Athlete - Men's and Women's Sports, Best Record-Breaking Performance, and Best Comeback Athlete, among others.

Flagg's nominations come on the heels of his historic NBA draft pick, with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison describing him as "a generational talent, a once-in-a-lifetime chance." If Flagg wins the Best Breakthrough Athlete award, he will become the first men's college basketball player to receive the honor.
The 2025 ESPY Awards will air live on ABC and stream live on ESPN+, with on-demand viewing available the next day on Disney+ and ESPN+.
