Jax Taylor, the former star of Bravo's Vanderpump Rules, has opened up about the effects of the nine-year age gap between him and his ex-wife, Brittany Cartwright, on their marriage. In the latest episode of his podcast, In the Mind of Jax Taylor, Taylor reflected on how being the older partner led him to be more "stubborn" and less willing to listen to his wife's concerns.
Taylor, 45, and Cartwright, 36, who share a four-year-old son named Cruz, filed for divorce in August 2022, six months after announcing their separation. Taylor has since sought treatment for his mental health and has been open about his struggles with accountability and communication in their relationship.
On his podcast, Taylor admitted to having a "superiority complex" due to his age difference with Cartwright, which led him to believe he knew more than her. "I never wanted to take any accountability for my actions because like I said, I'm older. I know more than you. You don't know anything," he said.
Taylor also described himself as "very alpha male" and said he was afraid to be honest with Cartwright about his feelings because he felt vulnerable and weak. "I was afraid to talk to Brittany about a lot of things, not only because of her reactions, but as a man, I felt very vulnerable and weak," he said.
The former reality star also acknowledged that communication was a major issue in their marriage, leading to blow-ups and unresolved conflicts. "Brittany and I would have these blow-ups, huge blow-ups that would last a few days," Taylor said. "And then forty-five minutes later, 'Should we go get some food? What do you wanna do?' Like, we don't really fix the problem."

Taylor has since learned to communicate more effectively and seek help when needed. "Until my divorce, until getting sober and going to AA and going to therapy and reaching out and being like, I can't do this anymore," he said.
