Jennifer Lopez, the 2025 American Music Awards host, is known for her stunning fashion sense, but she has a surprising approach to planning her wardrobe until the last minute. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Lopez, 55, revealed that she still hadn't decided on her outfits for the event, just days before the show.
"We started doing our fittings just yesterday, and there's so many things to choose from," Lopez explained. "I don't know what's going to wind up on the show... it'll be a lot of last-minute decisions, I think."
Lopez attributes her fashion decisions to her feelings, which change frequently. "I work with my stylist, and we kind of kick around ideas like, 'What do we want it to be for the performance and what do we want it to be for the hosting and what's our vibe?' We feel it out because I think it does change," she said. "For me, my feelings change from month to month, like, 'Who do I want to be today?' because I feel like there's so many different sides to who I am fashion-wise."
Lopez's team has a system in place for quick changes during performances. "I always want to keep the audience engaged and excited," the singer explained. "I have one or two girls that I worked with and have worked with for years, Kelly and now Hannah, and we really just have honed it down to, 'We'll do this. We'll do this. We'll do this. You take the top. I'll take the shoe.'" Lopez added, "We just have learned to do it so fast. So I'm sure we hold a world record or something somewhere."
Earlier this month, Lopez revealed that she'd injured her face during an AMAs rehearsal, but she's all good now. "I hurt my nose. I hit it in rehearsal and I had to get stitches. It was fine," she said. "A few of us have gotten hurt in rehearsals. We're doing a very high-energy athletic number, so it's, I guess, bound to happen."
The multi-hyphenate will take the stage alongside a star-studded roster of performers, including Becky G and Manuel Turizo, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Gloria Estefan, Benson Boone, Lainey Wilson, Renée Rapp and Alex Warren in his awards show performance debut. Janet Jackson, who is being honored with the ICON Award, will also take the stage, as will Rod Stewart, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Zac Brown will also be honored with the inaugural Veterans Voice Award.
The American Music Awards, hosted by Jennifer Lopez, will air live on Monday, May 26 from Fontainebleau Las Vegas at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
