J.J. Spaun, the California-born golfer, has stunned the world by winning the U.S. Open, and he's still reeling from the victory.
In an exclusive interview, Spaun revealed that he never thought he'd win the championship, saying, "You have aspirations and dreams of accomplishing things in this game, but my journey has always been I accomplish as I go."
Fortunate Breaks Helped Spaun Win
Spaun credits "fortunate breaks" for his win, including a weather delay that helped him reset after a bumpy start. He also got a better read on his putt after Viktor Hovland hit a shot close by and went before him to putt.
"It was just one of those things that when you win golf tournaments, you need fortunate breaks, things to go your way in order to win," Spaun said.

Weather Delay Was a Blessing in Disguise
The weather delay on Sunday was a game-changer for Spaun, who had carded five bogeys on his first six holes.
"It was huge having the delay," Spaun said. "It was actually a blessing in disguise. I kind of liken it to getting to have time in a big NBA game or any other sport where you can recollect your thoughts and come back with a game plan and assess, and most importantly just reset."
Spaun's win is his first major championship, and he's still soaking it all in. He's relishing the newfound notoriety and even can't help but rewatch that putt on 18.
"I mean, I can't hide from it, it's everywhere right now," he said. "And it was such a great moment to kind of relive and see it and just think that shot is going to be in the archives forever."
