Anne Burrell, Food Network Star and 'Worst Cooks in America' Host, Dies at 55

Authorities have confirmed that Anne Burrell, the beloved Food Network star, was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in her Brooklyn, New York, home on Tuesday, June 17. She was pronounced dead at the scene, with a cause of death still pending an autopsy.

According to the New York City Police Department, officers responded to a call at around 7:50 a.m. and found a 55-year-old female matching Burrell's description. EMS responded and pronounced her deceased on the scene.

Burrell's family released a statement, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend, saying, "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."

The Food Network star began her career in television after teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education in the early 2000s. She became a household name with her appearances on Iron Chef America, Chef Wanted, Chopped, and Worst Cooks in America.

In addition to her on-camera work, Burrell released two cookbooks: 2011's Cook Like a Rock Star, which was a New York Times bestseller, and Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire and Empower.

Burrell is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, his son, Javier, as well as her mother, Marlene, and sister, Jane, her children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, and her brother Ben.
